Ethan Tanner purchased 500k acres of land after the civil war and built an empire. His wife, Rebecca, died in the birth of their last child, Jane. The boys, Nathanial, Jebediah and Benjamin were sent to stay with a good ranching neighbor, Angus McManus.  After baby Jane arrived, the family was reunited but there was something foreign about Jane. Ethan knew and so did their devoted housekeeper and "little mother", Juanita.
